PLACES TO GO
If relaxing and unwinding sitting in the sun or in the shade of the
palm trees next to your private pool is not your cup of tea, try
some of the places or activities listed below.
Golf
The Costa del Sol is golfers’ heaven. Atalaya Park Hotel has
various excursions to many of the areas best courses.
Puerto Banus
5/10 minutes by car. A wealthy, cosmopolitan town which has grown
out of the original port. There are many restaurants and bars around
the harbour, which is also a great place to see watercraft from
small boats to super-yachts. The outer harbour wall is lovely to
walk along and can be accessed from the left end of the harbour. As
for shopping, Corte Anglais Hypercore is a Harrods style department
store where you can stock up on anything from your favourite perfume
to a new set of golf clubs & accessories, to local meat and fresh
fish delicacies for a barbecue.
Marbella
10/15 minutes by car. Has a lovely modern waterfront promenade and
the old town is wonderful to spend an afternoon/evening strolling
about the small winding cobble streets. If visiting the old town,
ask directions to Orange Square where you can relax at one of the
many cafés that surround the square and, as the name suggests, is
full of fragrant smelling orange trees.
Estapona
15 minutes by car. A large town which has grown from the original
port, as has Puerto Banus, but is far less wealthy. However, if
you’re looking for a large popular beach then Estepona has it.
Rhonda
45 minutes by car. The village of Rhonda is located up in the
mountains heading out from San Pedro, and is a very old and
picturesque town. Due to being built on a pinnacle of rock, accessed
by a bridge, it provides spectacular views over the neighbouring
mountains. It is a beautiful drive up, also with panoramic views.
Apparently Rhonda was the first town to have a bullring. Rhonda
itself is definitely worth seeing for the fantastic views.
Benahavis
5/10 minutes by car. Benahavis is still a quaint little mountain
village with tiny streets. Parking is usually easy on the street as
you approach the village. Benahavis has a large number of
restaurants for its size which reflect its popularity. It has a
small village square which is lovely to while away a little
afternoon time with a snack of prawn pil-pil along with a cool beer.
Do beware of the sun as the place can be so relaxing it’s hard not
to doze off where you sit.
